Many studies have been done  which link cocoa and dark chocolate with health benefits. Cocoa and chocolate contain a large amount of antioxidants (flavinoids).

Cocoa beans contain polyphenols (similar to those found in wine) with antioxidant properties which are health beneficial. and include catechins, epicatechins, and procyandins.
The antioxidants are found in the nonfat portions of the cocoa bean. The darker chocolate with the most concentrated cocoa contains more antioxidants and is more beneficial to your health than milk or lighter chocolate. In addition, the concentration of sugar is lower in dark chocolate than in milk chocolate. Some studies have also shown that consumption of chocolate increases serotonin levels in the brain, which explains why some people say that eating chocolate "makes them feel better." Caffeine- Cocoa beans contains a very low amount of caffeine, much less than found in coffee, tea and cola.
Serotonine -Cocoa and chocolate can increase the level of serotonine in the brain. Serotonine levels are often decreased in  people with depression and in those experiencing PMS symptoms.
