We talked to the Scouts Tuesday about what to bring. A few additional notes and reminders:
- ensure your son wears his full Class A uniform Sunday
- BRING the Scout handbook ! !
- clothing should be in a container that will fit under a standard cot (Gear is best stored in plastic containers that will fit UNDER the cots that are supplied)
- the boys will be sharing camp tents which include cots
- bring a hanger to hang his Scout shirt on when not in use - stays cleaner and dry
- bring a garbage bag to store dirty clothing. We are encouraging the boys to ensure the clothing is dry prior to cramming it in the bag
- bug spray is a must
- sun screen will be used each day! We do not like burns!
- bring extra shoes! No open toed shoes allowed in camp.
- your son WILL take a shower each day. Ensure he has soap, toothbrush and toothpaste, towels, etc.
- GoldBond medicated powder works well to prevent chafing, keeping feet and shoes dry as well ...hint
- if your son is taking medications, please ensure they are labeled clearly. Please make sure it is clear as to when he gets his medication (once a day at brreakfast for example). Place the medication and any notes about when they are taken in a zip lock bag. Ensure his name and Troop # is written on the bag.
- a backpack is required for an overnight campout. You DO NOT need to purchase an actual backpack used for hiking. You can bring your backpack used for school however.
- pocket knife WITH totin' chip
- Pen and notebook to write in - may have assignments
- Watch - so he can get to events on time without asking his Scoutmaster
- rain gear
- light weight sleeping bag or sheets. If you like a pillow, bring that too
- flashlight
- water bottle - a 1 liter bottle is sufficient. We will ensure he drinks a lot of water. Please have your son start drinking water prior to departure. It gets hot even in the shade!
- compass - if you dont have one, you don't have to purchase one. But here is a link to a model that works well. Some basic specs: at least 2 degree increments, the degree marks can line up with the directional arrow, straight edge on the sides can be used to draw lines on maps, and liquid filled. Some manufacturers: silva, brunton, link to Scoutstuff.org
- camp chair (we will have our picnic tables)
- hat (to keep sun off)
