Brute Press is an entity created for the purpose of producing a diverse category of valuable works.  To this end, we have found that the standard Copyright model for intellectual property actually constrains our motives rather than supports them.  Instead of following the standard, we have embraced a more nuanced policy regarding the usage of our work by our consumers.  Some of our products are given away for free in easily copyable formats to encourage their proliferation among our consumers.  Other products, typically those with a manufactured, object form, take many more resources to produce and to distribute, and so we collect some payment in exchange to help us continue to produce high quality, physical material.  However, we feel that in this age where technology has made it easy to spread the products of intellect far and wide, for a relative no cost, we would be remiss as producers if we did not embrace this. (Not to mention that we would be foolish to ignore facts.)

At the same time, we value our producers as much as our consumers.  Those who produce our works (either physical or "intellectual") love that our consumers enjoy the work, and would like to be attributed.  This way, the consumer knows where to seek more of the work, and the producer has the feedback necessary to creative process.

Additionally, we feel that if we are able to make our work available for free to increase the distribution and consumption, any person aiding in the distribution of such work should also abide by the same principles, so as to make the chain of production and distribution unified by that purpose.  If we need to collect payment in exchange to aid distribution and production, this process should be equally unified to those purposes, all the way back to the producers.  This unity in distribution is why we do not permit commercial use of our distributed works, and mandate that if they are shared, they must continue to be shared all the way down the line.
