October 2009

HALLOWEEN CELEBRATION

We will celebrate Halloween on Friday, October 30.  Please watch for a letter to come home that will have more detailed information about our celebration.  A sign up sheet will be posted by Monday, October 12.  This sign up sheet will include our special snack, items to be put into our "Treat" bags, and items to be used as prizes in our little carnival games.  Thank you in advance for any contribution you make to this celebration.

FIELD TRIP REMINDER

Please remember that our field trip to Westview Orchards is Wednesday, October 9.  ALL children who are attending need to be to school by 9 AM.  Please remember that all children need to bring a disposable lunch that also includes a drink, 2 napkins (one to place food on and one to wipe hands and face with), and any necessary plastic ware to eat with.
PLEASE DRESS YOUR CHILD FOR THE DAY'S WEATHER.  THIS TRIP RUNS RAIN OR SHINE AND WE WILL BE MOSTLY OUTDOORS.  PLEASE BE SURE ALL ARTICLES OF CLOTHING ARE LABELED.

September 2009

I'm sure by now many of the children have mentioned that we have a classroom pet named S'more.  She is a guinea pig and has all of the colors of the traditional campfire treats known as S'mores.  She has white that represents marshmallows, light brown that represents graham crackers, and dark brown that represents the yummy chocolate candy bar.  S'more always has her regular guinea pig food available but she does enjoy special treats.  From past experience, I know the children like to share special treats with her.  I will be making a list of treats that she is allowed to have and will pass the information on to you.  In order to prevent several children from bringing treats at the same time, I will make a calendar that will inform you when your child is our classroom helper.  They will have the privilege of holding the flag for the pledge, being first in line, sitting next to the teacher, and if they choose to, they may bring in a very small treat for S'more and I will help them give it to her.  I will ask that the children only bring in treats for her when they are my helper in order to prevent  an abundance (and possible waste) of treats.  We will begin this in October.

Please remember that our class begins at 9 a.m. and with cooler days ahead and your child needs time to hang up their jackets or sweaters  Please remember that dropping your child off about 10 to 15 minutes prior to our start time allows them time to hang up jackets and use the restroom if necessary.  PLELASE LABEL ALL ARTICLES OF CLOTHING THAT COME TO SCHOOL.

Don't forget that Curriculum Night is Tuesday, September 22nd at 6:30 p.m.  This is your chance to hear about our classroom routine and discuss the preprimary curriculum.  This is a night set aside to answer your general questions and concerns.  If you have questions or concerns that pertain only to your child it is best to make an appointment to meet with me, call me after school (3:30 pm at 248-689-9565), and lastly the e-mail me through the school web site.  I usually check my e mail at least 3 times a day and often it is easier than playing "phone tag" and I can also e mail you in the evening.  Hope to see you there!

As we head into cooler days and sweaters and jackets are being worn to school, please remember to have your child's name written on all articles of clothing.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Classroom Progress Notes

Classroom Progress - December

During December for geography we will be busy learning how children celebrate the Winter Holidays in different parts of the world.  We will also continue learning the names of the seven continents and identifying them on the puzzle map of the world.

For science, we will begin to learn about nutrition, being healthy, and recognizing body parts.

All of the children will continue working in the math and language areas at their appropriate academic level.

Classroom Progress - October

CLASSROOM PROGRESS

All of the children are placed in math and language groups and most of them have started coming to the Lesson Table for academic presentations.  A fewer of the younger children or children who recently have joined our class will begin coming to the Lesson Table once they are comfortable in the classroom.
All children are busy working in the Practical Life and Sensorial areas.  New activities include: the Hole Punching Exercise, crayon rubbing, nut and bolt exercises, bottle and cap exercise, matching Jack-o-Lantern faces, the rubberband boards, and pegboards with pattern cards.  Some of the older children are also working independently with the math and language activities as well.
