Assistive Technology is anything that can assist the individual to better interact with their world.

Assistive Devices are any specific devices that can be considered assistive technology.

As people with Bloom's we may have more difficulty than the average person in interacting with our environment.  For example, I have difficulty opening cans and jars and bottles.  I use a fat rubber band to create friction on the top of jars to open the lid.  I also use electric can openers.

Technology and devices exist for just about every activity of daily living (ADL) so if you wish to do something easier, chances are there is a way to do it.  Creative, outside the box thinking is most of what is required to have a good quality of life.

Examples of the above include:  wheelchair ramps, adapted computer keyboards, automatic window and door openers, reachers, and so much more.

There are hundreds of vendors out there to assist you in finding the right technology.  In the United States I would start with your local Center for Independent Living, Vocational Rehabilitation Office, or Little People of America chapter.  If you are employed and looking for assistance in making your job more accessible to you, check out your regional Disability Business Technical Assistance Center (DBTAC) or the Job Accommodation Network (JAN).
