This class has been really great. It was fun to hang out with people of similar interests. Having the class lead up to the trip to Maker Faire was a great idea, too. I liked learning new skills and I wish there would have been more demonstrations and lessons from other people. I liked taking things apart with other people, because we would each notice different things. I would totally take this class again. Sometimes the free times were really great, because you could do your own thing, but sometimes the lack of structure just brought on, well, no structure. So some people were really productive and others not so much. Over all, however, it was an amazing experience. Thanks Jac! |

Before Maker Faire: We arrive at SeaTac Airport Thursday morning. We make it through security. We wait for our gate, anxious because they said the back-seat-monitors were down. We get on the plane. The monitors were up. Sort of. They kept crashing, as if the three cans of red bull they had had just worn off. We arrive. We wait for a shuttle. We hop onto the shuttle, eager to see the hotel rooms we would be occupying for three nights. They are slightly shady, but that is OK. The rooms are fine. The kitchen was built into the bathroom, as if the architect had oversaw the kitchen and added it onto the blueprints at the last minute. We take train. We take bus. We walk. We use any transport method possible to get were we need to go. We go to a baseball game full of crazies. We meet up with Joe Grand for a long lunch. We go to the exploratorium. Guitar Hero was played. We ran to catch a train. we missed it by 10 minutes. ten minutes. we sat. We sat. Then the train! That wonderful, smelly, hard to maneuver train had arrived. ah, to be back at the hotel! |

-We walked around and I got to talk to Jake Von Slatt, the worlds leading steampunk artist. He was truly brilliant. Really. -We saw a quarter get exploded (or is it imploded?). -We went to Swap-O-Rama Rama, where people bring in old clothes and can take anything they want an go to the sewing machines and make something brilliant. I made a mediocre tie hybrid. (Tiebrid!) -There was also a team of silk screeners printing designs for free so I got a hot air balloon for my coat. -I brought along the bag I made out of floppy disks and got no less than 60 compliments on it and many dumb comments. (Can I take a picture of it?) Everyone asked if it made it, which is wierd because I have never seen any of these for sale, but I guess people were unaware that a kid can make things other then macaroni sculpture. (Thats not exactly fair, because many people were very kind.) |
