Digital Arts wrap-up
What worked: I'd have to say that the trip to California worked really well. Or at least no one got killed by a train. What also worked was the software we used. I mean, they didn't crash, did they? What didn't: Two middle schoolers in the same queen-sized bed. Enough said. What should have happened: Ella's sweatshirt was a real letdown. Also, it would have been awesome if I could have gotten a cool Arduino idea in time. But I didn't. Best thing: The Maker Faire, no question.
Thank you for reading this final blog post! Signing off, Amadeus Humphrey Zyzzvus Mop, better known as Cillian A. Murphy.

San Francisco was fun. Got to sleep at 1:15 AM yesterday. Got up at 4:45 AM yesterday. Slept 1/2 hour on plane. All told, 4 hours of sleep. Battery level critical. Unit will commence hibernation now. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....
Okay, starting over...
The first day, we arrived in San Francisco Airport and took a shuttle to the hotel. Then we took a train to South San Francisco and visited these hackers called Noisebridge. Then we went to Jac's brothers house and played Guitar Hero: World Tour. We got back to the hotel at 11:00 PM. The next day, we went back to South San Francisco and visited the Exploratorium, which is the San Francisco Science Center. Then we met with a guy from Prototype This!, who is also a security system destructive tester, AKA hacker. After that, we went back to the Exploratorium. Then we got a guided tour of the SF Giants Big Board control room, and got to watch the game. Then we went back to the hotel. On Sunday, all day, we went to the Maker Faire, which was pretty cool. Then we went back to the hotel, slept, got up at 4:45 AM, and took a plane back to Seattle. So all in all, it was a great trip.

Everyone (including me) is excited about the trip to San Francisco! Yes, that's right. I AM EXCITED ABOUT A SCHOOL TRIP!!!! The world is ending! Apple is building a computer that's better than looks! Hollywood is making a scientifically correct movie! The buses are on time! Now, what to do this last day... I think I've run out of ideas for what to do! Maybe I'll work on Arduino for a while, and maybe try and do something kinda like that guy on Twitter with the fart-sensing office chair.... |

Gabe has made an AWESOME Tower Defense game in Starlogo TNG. I am trying to improve it and turn it into my own. One of the things I have noticed I am still open if anyone needs help with Python, Starlogo, or any Microsoft Office! By the way, does anyone know what Hexadecacarbonylhexarhodium is?
Speaking of "hexa-" prefixes, here's a programmer joke: 3x12 = 36 2x12 = 24 1x12 = 12 0x12 = 18 |

I've been working on Starlogo TNG. TNG stands for "The Next Generation", in case you're wondering. The really annoying thing about Starlogo is that you can only rotate objects along the Y axis, not the X or Z axis, which makes bullets really hard to make.

I was in Mexico for the week, so instead I'll post some random facts & data.
- 1 single piece of information in a computer is called a 'bit', which can be on or off, 1 or 0. One bit --> 0 8 bits is called a 'byte', which can be used to signify 1 character. One byte --> 10010110 However, half a byte, or 4 bits, is called a 'nybble'. I am not making this up. One nybble --> 1010 - If you press command-option-control-8 on a mac, it inverts the colors. For example, this is inverted, but this is not. -

I'm doing a medium intro to Python, as a follow-up to my beginner's intro last Monday, if anyone is interested.

Arduino is giving me problems. I'm trying to wire in 7 LEDs to blink at the same time, but only 2 will blink. If I remove those 2, then all the rest will blink just fine.

...I've been workin' with Arduino, all the livelong day; I've been makin' a cool strobe light, just to pass the time away.... I'm also doing an intro to Python. Python is a really cool and intuitive programming language that is excellent for beginners and experts alike. |
