School Hours School begins at 8:25. Students arriving after 8:30 are considered tardy and must report to the office with a parent to receive a tardy slip before entering the classroom. School ends at 3:00. Students leaving early must be checked out from the office. Afternoon Pick-up Students who leave at 3:00 will be picked up in the circular driveway. Students not picked up by 3:15 will report to after-school until a parent arrives. You will be charged a fee for after-school care if your child is left after 3:20. Medication Medication of any kind must be checked in at the front office. All medicine must be in its original container. Students are not allowed to administer their own medication. Please do not send medication in lunchboxes or backpacks. Morning Snack Please pack an additional food item in your child’s lunch boxes for morning snack. All morning snacks should be nutritious. Desserts will not be allowed for snack time. Lunch Please pack a healthy, well-balanced lunch daily for your child. Keep sweets to a minimum and know that candy items will be confiscated. Our classroom is not equipped for keeping lunches cold during the day or warming meals. Cold packs are wonderful for keeping lunches cool. Many thermoses can be heated prior to your child’s arrival and will maintain enough warmth until lunch time. Also, soda of any kind is not permitted in kindergarten. Extra Clothing Keep one extra set of clothing (underwear and socks included) in your child’s cubby. Replace clothing items as necessary and according to the seasonal weather. Birthdays We love to celebrate birthdays! Please let me know if you wish to bring in a treat for your child’s special day. Show and Tell Each child is assigned a share day on their colored week (red or blue). Monthly calendars will reflect the colors and Monday letters will contain reminders. Homework Beginning in January, homework will be given Monday through Thursday nights. Make-up Work If your child is absent, any missed class work will be sent home in his or her FISH book after he/she returns to school. It is imperative to return this work ASAP for grading purposes. Communication Please send any important messages to me by writing them in the parent/teacher communication section of your child’s FISH book. FISH books will be checked each day. E-mail is another way to contact me if there is something that you have forgotten to include. Behavior As a class, we will be building our classroom rules together. Once they are completed they will be sent home. Each day the behavior of your child will be recorded and sent home in the FISH book to be initialed. In Kindergarten, we use a 5 color system. Each morning, your child will begin on GREEN. If a formal warning is necessary, it will be given and your child will move to YELLOW. If behavior is not corrected, he or she will move to RED and will be given a five minute time out. Continued inappropriate behavior will result in a trip to the office and the receiving of BLUE. Most children should be able to easily stay on green each day. As incentive for the children to be more helpful and kind to teachers and others, we will introduce the color PURPLE. Children demonstrating exemplary behavior will receive this designation of high regard. J So, to recap: PURPLE - I had an extraordinary day GREEN - I had a good day YELLOW - My day was okay RED - I made wrong choices today BLUE - I had to go to the office because of my inappropriate behavior today Nap Time We will have a rest time each afternoon for the first half of the year. Please, make sure your child has a mat at school. You may send in a small blanket or towel for covering and one small, soft animal for your child to rest with. As our cubbies are small, please do not send in pillows. Blankets will go home each Friday for cleaning. Lunch Forms Lunch forms go home each grading period. If you desire for your child to have Friday lunches at school, please fill out and return the form by the due date. Friday Folders Each Friday, your child will receive a Friday Folder from the office. This will include important information. Please make sure that you look over the contents of the folder, sign the front, and return it on Monday. Conferences Parent-Teacher conferences are scheduled at least twice during the school year (first and third quarters). A sign-up sheet will be posted to allow everyone to choose a convenient meeting time. |
