The parish runs two Op Shops
Bellarine Gateway Anglican Parish operates two Opportunity Shops which are designed to produce a variety of outcomes.
At Leopold we operate Pearly Gates which is situated in the Dorothy Avenue Shopping Centre (although it’s really around the corner at 1 Longview Avenue). Both these retail outlets have a wide range of high quality, very affordable clothing, together with books, glassware, giftware and other sought after items. The shops are staffed by both parishioners and members of the wider, local community, who give their time voluntarily.
These outlets support a wide range of parish activities. They both offer free school uniforms for the local Primary and Secondary schools. Both offer free clothing and other necessities for those who need material assistance, and a large quantity of clothing is sent from both shops to other outlets and agencies within the Greater Geelong area and to overseas agencies in the South Pacific and Eastern Europe. Locally, Heaven Cent operates a laundering service for the local Secondary College to supply freshly laundered uniforms to the school for distribution, and Pearly Gates financially support our local Chaplaincy/Counselling service at the local Secondary College where a parish representative supports the school community (both students and teachers) one day each week.
