Welcome To Nicholas J. Begich Middle School!
We are off to a great start for our second year! The enthusiasm we see in the halls, classroom, and lunchroom is exciting. Each of the grades is filled with diverse and eager students. With our 75 certified teachers and supportive team we are ready for all the excitement and adventure of educating middle school. Our staff is devoted to providing excellent learning opportunities and fun activities for all our students. Thank you all for your support and for making this year’s start such a smooth one.

BEGICH – THE HEARTBEAT OF MULDOON
This year our school theme is “Begich – The Heartbeat of Muldoon.” Just as the heart is the vital center of our body, we want our school to be the center for our students and community where we focus on a caring, positive learning environment with high expectations for academic achievement. Students have greater academic success, as a rule, if they are involved in our many varied activities. We are proud of the opportunities that our school offers through academics, sports, fine arts, electives and extracurricular activities before, during, and after school. We are devoted to becoming a central part of the Muldoon community.

PTSA AND COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION
Your response to our three Back-to-School nights was overwhelming, and we are grateful for your involvement. Many families had the opportunity to meet their student’s teachers and tour the school. I want to thank our PTSA for greeting families, selling Memory Books, and providing ice cream treats for all three nights. It has been gratifying to experience daily reminders of the support and help our middle school is receiving from families like yours and the community as a whole.

DECORUM AND EXPECTATIONS Our school decorum is based on providing clear and consistent expectations and being proactive with students. We have had three assemblies already to set the tone and school climate for the year. Our assemblies, held by grade level, were planned to deliver decorum expectations for students. Our students were alert, responsive, and we have seen many examples of good behavior. In addition, Father Michael Oleksa, a nationally-known teacher of cross cultural communications, met with all our students and staff and offered insight and tips on how to better communicate and get along.

PICTURES ARE WORTH 1000 WORDS
We use photos to recognize and celebrate the many talents and accomplishments of our students, families, and staff. You will find photos on this website, all through the halls of school, and on our new flat screen TV in the front entrance of the school.

WELCOME MAT IS OUT
The welcome mat is always out at Begich Middle School, and I encourage you to be involved in your student’s education. Parents are critical to the success of students and the school. My goal is to provide meaningful ways for parents to be involved in all aspects of our educational program. When everyone contributes, we all benefit. I look forward to meeting you and working with you throughout your middle school student’s school career. You are a vital part of our team!
