27th Morbidity Week June 25 - July 5, 2008

DENGUE FEVER:

Two cases of dengue fever were admitted at the sentinel sites for the 27th morbidity week. The cases are from the municipality of Dinalupihan and Limay. A total of one hundred twenty cases of dengue fever were admitted at the different sentinel sites from January 1 to July 5, 2008. This number of admission is 167% higher compared to the same period last year (45 cases). Ages of cases ranged from 3mos to 59 years old with a median of 19 and mode of 15. Fifty four percent of the cases were male.  

  The municipality with the most number of cases is Limay with 33 cases (28%) followed by Dinalupihan with 29 cases (24%). A total of five fatalities from Dinalupihan, Limay (3) and Mariveles were reported for this year (CFR- 4.2%). No fatality and clustering was reported for this week.

  The Provincial Health Office strongly recommends environmental clean up, search and destroy and health education activities to prevent the increase of dengue cases.
