DENGUE FEVER:

There was no case of dengue fever  admitted at the sentinel sites for the 21st morbidity week. A total of one hundred ten cases of dengue fever were admitted at the different sentinel sites from January 1 to May 24, 2008. This number of admission is 182% higher compared to the same period last year (39 cases). Ages of cases ranged from 3mos to 48 years old with a median of 18 and mode of 15. Fifty five percent of the cases were male.

The municipality with the most number of cases is Limay with 30 cases (27%) followed by Dinalupihan with 28 cases (25%). No clustering of cases was noted. A total of five fatalities were reported for this year (CFR-4.5%). These fatalities were from the municipalities of Dinalupihan, Limay (3) and Mariveles.

The Provincial Health Office strongly recommends environmental clean up, search and destroy and health education activities to prevent the increase of dengue cases.
