Melba Claire Barlar Chick passed away at her home in San Jose, California on June 22, 2017 at the age of 89. A long time resident of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, she is preceded in death by the love of her life Elton Blakely Chick, parents Clarence and Ann Ingram Barlar; brothers Cordell and Brown Barlar and sisters Mackie Barlar Arnett and Lucille Bowen.

All are invited for visitation with Melba's family from 10am to 12pm on Saturday July 1st at Woodfin Memorial Chapel, in Murfreesboro, with services to follow at 12 noon. Services will be officiated by Pastor Pam Pilote, with her son Dr. Robert Chick providing the eulogy.

Melba is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law John and Jeanne Chick of Murfreesboro, TN; Steven Chick and former daughter-in-law Lisa Wolfe of San Jose, CA; and Dr. Robert and Elizabeth Chick of Apex, NC. She had seven grandchildren, Ellice Chick Gullet (Brad), Joel Chick (Sonya), James Chick (Jasmine), Evan Chick (Adrianne), Daniel Chick, John Carlo Chick and Sophia Grace Chick ; ten great-grandchildren, Laurana, Jareth and Davik Gullett; Hayden and Asher Chick; Lily and Owen Chick; Penelope, Liam and Nora Chick as well as several nieces and nephews.

Melba was a member of First Baptist Church. The ladies of Hope Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Following the service, a light lunch will be provided by First Baptist at Woodfin Chapel.

A graveside service will follow at 3:00 PM Saturday at Lynnwood Cemetery in Lynnville TN as Melba is laid to rest next to her beloved Elton.
