Spiritual leadership can be a lonely business. Recent studies have indicated that as many as 70% of pastors have no close friends.1 This sense of isolation can easily lead to high levels of stress, fatigue or depression. One of the best ways to counteract this trend is to engage in regular spiritual direction with a trusted, Christian friend.
According to Fil Anderson of Journey Resources, spiritual direction is "the gift to be sensitive, present and supportive to the spiritual journey of another ... the director not only gives you direction in your spiritual life along each stage of the journey, but also becomes a soul-friend, a companion on the way" (see Fil's attached article for more details).
At the Center for Spiritual Renewal, we want you to know that you are not alone on your journey with Jesus. We are here to offer our support as fellow travelers on the way. We also have a number of people on our campus who are gifted, trained and experienced in clinical psychology, marriage and family therapy, and pastoral counseling. If you are in need of counseling or spiritual direction, please contact us by phone at our toll-free number (800-862-0226) or by email (david.williams@barclaycollege.edu). We will do our best to listen, pray and facilitate ongoing spiritual friendships with others in your area.
