Laura is in her second year out of college teaching math. She
restructured Avalon's math program so that she now has moved from being
an advisor to a full time math teacher. This means she gets to teach
all of the high school math courses...and do all the grading for them
too! Last year she enjoyed leading a small Music Theory seminar and
loves that Avalon offers those types of opportunities to both staff and
students. This year, her extra project is to be the Yearbook Advisor.
It has been a fun process to learn, but a little nervewracking as well
(all those deadlines!). Laura graduated in May of 2007 from The University of Iowa with a BA
in math and a certificate in secondary education. Eastern Iowa was
always her home until she moved up to the Twin Cities after
graduation. She currently resides in the way Southwest suburbs with
her husband, who is an English teacher in Burnsville. Besides lesson planning, project proposals, teaching class, reading
and replying to e-mail, and always reminding students to do their
homework, Laura enjoys spending time with her husband and family,
watching the Twins, Bears, and her Hawkeyes, trying to learn how to
cook, and her new favorite hobby: photography. She really enjoys
traveling, but wants to do much more of it, as she hasn't quite made
her way across any oceans yet. Laura Connell Math Advisor 651-649-5495 ext. 201 |
