Heidi is sort of an Avalon groupie. She teaches ESL and subs part time while juggling the needs of 3 redheaded offspring and a mischievous dachshund. Heidi grew up in Mound, MN until 10th grade and then moved to Berlin, Germany where she graduated from JFK German-American School. She majored in Biology and Anthropology at Macalester College, committed to a career in International Health Development. She fatefully returned to Berlin after graduation, met a charming German veterinary student (Stefan, sigh!), and stayed on for several years teaching English and attending Uni classes. She discovered the joys of teaching language, a job which combines hands-on anthropology, working with young people, the puzzles of languages and cultures, and an ideal way to make a positive difference in the world. Heidi earned her M.Ed. from the Univ. of Minn. and holds licenses in ESL, German, and Language Arts. She enjoyed 12 dynamic years of teaching ESL in Minneapolis Public Schools before discovering Avalon. Heidi likes to think that she has the best job in the world, and looks forward to the day her own children become Avalon students. |
