12th October – 16th October 2009 Lauren Stringer is an artist and has exhibited her work in many art galleries and museums. She is a children’s book illustrator and is currently working on several manuscripts. She has received the McKnight Foundation Fellowship for sculpture and won the Minnesota Book Award, The IRA Children’s Choice Award and the Crayola Kids Best Book of the Year Award. Lauren Stringer will meet with the elementary students to inspire, encourage and create literary and visual art work. Lauren will talk about different ways of illustrating. With grades EC to 2, she will create an "illustration" with words from a poem. Students will learn about placement of text and images on a page to create movement and flow. It will be a fun and an exciting workshop. With grades 3-5, Lauren will play the role of an editor and students will become authors/illustrators. It is a process-oriented workshop and students will use their work to create a dummy book. They will learn about pagination, the flow of illustration in a picture book, and how the pictures can go beyond the words to reveal more of the story. She will be at our school from the 12th October – 16th October. In all workshops, Lauren will get work with each of the elementary student during the library classes. Lauren will have an interactive presentation during the opening assembly. Parents are cordially invited!!!
