My paintings evoke different emotions, rejection, curiosity, recognition …… the often painted faces …… A face is seldom detached from a judgment, I do not paint persons, they are symbols that stand for something, when it symbol would get a face it becomes a person with a character, the universal term that I want to depict is lost.
Masks, blindfolds and face or headless figures can often be seen. My fascination goes out to the emotion. The emotion as a universal fact, independent of culture, race and zeitgeist. The emotional deformities that occur when young people are taught to behave appropriately. The painting process is the search for what is real and what has been learned or imposed. While painting I search for objectification of the image that is emerging. Until all that's left is what really matters. A process of individuation, an expansion of consciousness, takes place in this way, which in the words of Jung “leads to maturity, to what you have always been”. I paint the budding of the female image, no longer hindered by the girl who was hindered by her upbringing and family history. The work must always meet the criterion that it is “real”. Only then is the work completed.
