Quaker Hill Foundation joins Rockfall Foundation in Supporting ARTFARM's "BioBus"
A festively hand-painted bright green school bus has been transporting ARTFARM’s Circus for a Fragile Planet and other programs around the state since 2008. Thanks to support from the Rockfall Foundation and the Quaker Hill Foundation the bus will soon be running purely on waste vegetable oil. ARTFARM acquired the short diesel school bus in the spring from the Newington Public Schools, and a generous grant from the Middletown-based Rockfall Foundation allowed ARTFARM to re-paint the bus and get it fully insured and road-ready. The Quaker Hill Foundation, based in Andover, MA, has awarded additional funding which will allow ARTFARM to complete the process of converting the bus to waste vegetable oil operation. ARTFARM is a non-profit organization which cultivates high-quality theater with a commitment to simple living, environmental sustainability and social justice. Circus for a Fragile Planet is one of the company’s signature programs, bringing its unique blend of circus entertainment and environmental education to thousands regionally at schools, universities, art centers, nature centers and festivals. The Circus, like all ARTFARM activities, strives to model positive environmental choices, including the use of home made and recycled props, set, costumes and juggling equipment. The vegetable oil powered BIOBUS will insure that this and other ARTFARM programs not only “walk the walk” in terms of environmental responsibility, but also “drive the drive.”
