Hours: Approximately 30 hours per week. Precise schedule to be determined.

Some weeks may be more than 30 hours.

Responsibilities: The Production Intern will assist with many administrative, artistic, technical and promotional aspects of Shakespeare in the Grove, 2010. The exact job description will be created together with the Intern and ARTFARM and will reflect and balance the interests and strengths of the Intern with the needs of the organization and of the production. ARTFARM is looking for a talented and energetic individual who can take initiative and be self-reliant while supporting the Shakespeare in the Grove, 2010 production of As You Like It in all kinds of ways. We are looking for someone who wants to be committed to the success of the vision of this growing community arts event and is willing to work hard as part of a production team. The work will vary from creative and challenging to mundane administrative tasks like data entry or going door-to-door hanging posters. It is an opportunity to learn about all aspects of producing a large-scale theater event, from fundraising to wardrobe.

Responsibilities will vary during the eight weeks of the internship. During the first four weeks they may include:
  • Working with the producer to create and carry out a “guerilla marketing” plan, which may include internet research, website development, making and posting lawn signs, Myspace coordination, personal appearances at events, etc.
  • Developing and managing the ARTFARM database, both mailing and email, and using the database to market the production.
  • Developing a strategy for selling playbill advertisements and coordinating that effort.
  • Coordinating the design, ordering and marketing of As You Like It and ARTFARM tee shirts.
  • Writing and distributing calendar notices and press releases to media outlets and following up with them.
  • Assisting the designer and technical director with purchasing and preparing set and design elements, including building, painting and construction.

During the final four weeks responsibilities may include:
  • Distributing posters and flyers by mail and in person .
  • Working with the graphic designer and printer to coordinate design, assembly and printing of production playbills.
  • Assisting the volunteer coordinator with volunteer recruitment and coordination, supporting performing artists, and daily set up and strike.
  • Assisting designer and technical director with design and technical work as needed.
  • Assisting with post production strike and follow up.
  • A general willingness to go where the need is most acute and fill the gap.
  • Optional on a volunteer basis: Serving in a key backstage production role (i.e. assistant stage manager, board operator, costume assistant, etc, depending on personal interest and experience and production requirements.)
