Deborah voyage 13

Depart Sydney       24/7/48

Arrive Auckland      5/8/48

A few days after Nagle returned to Auckland he gave vent to his anger about the insultingly off-hand treatment he got in Sydney from the postmaster there after offering to take the mail to Auckland

"To the Editor of the New Zealander.

Sir, - The schooner Deborah, under my command, being in the stream and on the immediate point of sailing for Auckland, on Monday afternoon, the 24th July, I deemed it my duty, as two English mails had arrived in Sydney, to proceed to the private residence of the Postmaster-General of that city, to proffer my services in conveying the Auckland portion of that mail to its destination. To this Mr.Raymond replied that he never entrusted mails to cattle ships, and that he had given them to the Emma, then taking in cargo,

                                    I remain, Sir

                                    Your obedient servant,

                                                J. Nagle.

Tuesday evening, August 8, 1848."

The New Zealander newspaper then made a point of noting in a subsequent voyage that the tables had been turned and the mail had been carried.

"The Deborah arrived after a passage of 13 days on Sunday last bringing the May English mail. Capt. Nagle has remained in Sydney and the schooner has been brought down by her owner Capt. Bliss.
