Passenger lists mentioned in many of the voyages from Launceston are from the Archives of Tasmania. The crew/pax lists were consolidated by self from lists under two different spellings of the name Stirlingshire/Sterlingshire, but obviously the same vessel.
The letters 'stl' after a crewman's name refers to his having been on the Stirlingshire previous to the voyage he is currently listed on. Other vessels served on are given in full.
Notice the high rate at which crew return to employment on the vessel on subsequent voyages. This would seem to indicate a satisfactory working environment, and reflects well on the Captain, Christopher Gwatkin. |
