This panorama covers over 180 degrees, on the left looking eastward and on the right just north of west.
Port Fitzroy was named in 1844 after Governor Robert FitzRoy by Frederick Whitaker. Before that time it was known as the 'Inner Harbour'. The land in the foreground on the left of the ridge is the Glenfern Sanctuary. The island to the right is Kaikoura Island, a Crown reserve run by the Motu Kaikoura Trust.
