The ‘Terror’ Among the other signs of the times, this vessel, one of our regular traders, and we believe built in New Zealand, took her departure on Sunday 13th for Sydney. She had in all 60 passengers. Her spirited owner, W. Abercrombie Esq., departs in her, she calls at the Barrier to clear out all and sundry, the remains of the mining concern, in consequence of Maorie intimidation! Thus painfully is the work of years of studious and competent industry overthrown by the effects of ignorant and upstart egotism. Source: The Auckland Times 15/4/1845

Advert wanting 50 Maories for squaring timber, and 3 pairs of sawyers, and 4 ships carpenters.
Wanted Fifty Maories who understand the falling and squaring of timber to proceed to the Barrier - Wages four dollars (yes) per month with rations.
