It is important to understand that recommendations and endorsements aren't simply a small group of people making a decision for the whole Association. In the case of Anchorage elections, there are several steps: 1 - The candidate must come to our candidate forum or be interviewed. 2 - The candidate must complete the questionnaire from AEA that is given to all candidates. 3 - A motion to endorse the candidate must be introduced at a Rep Council meeting and passed by a majority of the members there. In between steps 2 & 3, the PACE will meet and make a list of recommendations to be passed to Rep Council. They are simply recommendations. Rep Council can adopt them, amend them, or reject them. Due to scheduling, our process has to start pretty early for a local election. In this case, the forum was held on February 25th and heavily advertised mainly through District email. AEA PACE met on February 26th and formulated recommendations. Recommendations were introduced at Rep Council on March 3rd. While the actual choices to endorse were not changed, the amounts of money contributed were. |
