The ACSF works to enhance classroom learning
Since 1988, the Algona Community School Foundation has given over $1.4 million toward projects that enhance learning and support student success. During the last two years, the Foundation has provided $475,000 for projects beyond the typical school budget.
Virtual Reality & Augmented Reality: 2021
Thanks to the innovative efforts of our faculty, the Foundation approved a grant for $13,000 to implement virtual & augmented reality technology into the classroom. This will provide new and exciting opportunities for history, science and other areas. The grant provides for 30 units to positively impact classrooms throughout the District.
Foundation Boosts Robotics Education
In 2021 the Foundation funded two grants requests to enhance robotics education. A grant request for $7,100 for coding curriculum will impact all elementary students, provide enrichment and STEM opportunities and impact the K - 8 talented & gifted program. In addition, a $5,500 grant request will provide STEM course supplies for students in grades 5 - 7.
This support follows past support for robotics education. Students in the sixth grade were impacted with a robotics program in 2014 as part of their science curriculum thanks to the generosity of the Algona Community School Foundation. The Algona Community School Foundation awarded $15,600 for the purchase of equipment.
In 2018 the Foundation awarded an additional $5,600 to enhance the robotics program.
$40,000 Grant Boosts Elementary Playgrounds
Students at Bertha Godfrey Elementary and Bryant Elementary will benefit from new playground equipment, in part due to the ACSF's generous contribution. Equipment is scheduled for installation in the early summer 2019. This enhances the facilities of our District while also serving our greater community.
Largest Gift to Date: Performing Arts Center
In 2015, the Foundation proudly made a $167,000 contribution to the Wilcox Performing Arts Center. This is the Foundation's largest gift to date!
Gift Enhances Student Facilities
In 2020, the Foundation supported the Algona Turf Project with a $50,000 donation to enhance facilities for student athletes and the overall facilities for the District. Supporting the District's strong reputation for excellent facilities is vital to our community's economic development efforts and in retaining students.
