IntroductionSince September 09 Kwort has been discontinued in favor of a more user friendly linux distribution called Ubuntu. We have created our own Ubuntu Remix based on the same system we have used for our VMWare version which includes everything needed to run bluetooth software like for example OpenProximity2. With this new system we have also developed an installer image based on components provided by Ubuntu Minimal Image, syslinux and some basic GNU tools like gz and tar. This installer is able to boot from either a cdrom, or a pen drive, no matter which media you choose for the installation the process is almost the same. NOTE: This installer is able only to install Ubuntu into a ServerXR, this means it will only install into internal HD or CF, if you have either an Ebox3300 or a Ebox2300 not bought from us you can use this procedure but you do it under your own risk, take into account that you can't prepare your Ebox too boot from USB with this installer. Setting Things UpNo matter which media you choose you firstly will need either the iso cdrom image, or the burned cd which can be bought from us. You will also need either a USB keyboard, or a PS2 keyboard.Installing from USB
USB installation is a bit more tricky, but not too much complicated anyway.First you need the iso image, then you will also need Unetbootin this tool will work either on Windows or Linux. On some linux distributions you might need to install 7zip-full first. On linux make sure you run as root, you will firstly need to chmod the file to executable like: chmod +x unetbootin-linux-356 Instructions on how to use Unetbootin are available here: http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/#install you have to tell the application you will provide your Diskimageown iso image (by marking the iso ball), you choose the iso image to use by pressing the three dots button next to the text line (make sure you select aircable.iso from us). You select USB Drive (if you have only one pen drive attached Unetbootin will detect by itself), chooose your USB drive and press Ok, after a few minutes the process will be done. Once it's done there is a file you need to replace otherwise you will not get the right installer screen. You need to copy the file isolinux.cfg (will be available at the USB drive root) as syslinux.cfg. Booting your media (applies to USB and CDROM installations)Plug your media to the ServerXR (USB Flash Drive, or USB Cdrom drive). And turn it on, press F11 (or F8 if you got the old ServerXR with a power
button on the front) as soon as you turn it on.Choose your USB drive from the drop down list. The new ServerXR has a very buggy BIOS, and it doesn't get along with some USB drive manufacturers, if this is your case (you will notice the BIOS screen takes for ever to go no matter what button you press), you will have to plug out and plug back in your pen drive quickly. InstallingThe installation process is quite straight forward, there are no options to choose from. Once you boot you will get the boot loader image which will look like:You need to choose ServerXR Install from this list and press enter. You will now see a lot of screens going over and over, don't worry there isn't much you can do to take control, you can tell it's doing right by seen screens like this too: If you have a new ServerXR (the one without the button on the front), then you will get this screen before the process is done, you need to choose the first option which is called "install the package maintainer's version"ServerXR ubuntu is installed thanks, you can call reboot to restart your system BusyBox v1.10.2 (Ubuntu 1:1:10.2-2ubuntu7 built-in shell (ash) Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands. ~ # This means the installation is done, and now you can reboot your system to boot into your Ubuntu-ServerXR (take out the installation media before booting). First Boot - Post Install processOn the first boot you will be asked a few questions, the first screen allows to localize the installed applications, if you're an English speaker or just don't matter about getting things in English then we suggest you choose the first option (this will save you a few MB also).Next two steps will allow you to choose your country, this step is important to keep your ServerXR clock in-time. The next option is keyboard choosing, this will only make a difference if you use a keyboard attached to your ServerXR. Another screen will popup (this process looks like it's never going to end...), on this screen you will have to choose characters supported by the console, for the American Contintent, Western Europe and some Turkic Languages we recommend you select Latin1 and Latin5. Next 3 steps ask you to create a user name and a password for it. First you're asked for the full name of the user. Then you will be asked for an account username, this is case sensitive so we suggest you type it in lower-case, by default it will be your User name in lower caps. Next you will be asked to input the user password twice, make sure you remember this password otherwise you will have to do the installation process again. Final screen of the Post install process will arrise telling us how long will it take to update the system, and then we're done (you will get to the normal boot screen). Normal BootWe took confconsole from Turnkey Linux this is a friendly tool that will pop up and print some information that's useful for remotly getting control of your ServerXR.In this screen you will get:
Keeping your ServeXR up to date.Regularly AIRcable, Ubuntu or Turnkey Linux will release upgrades, but you might not get alerts when this happen so, it's always a good idea to run two simple commands:sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade |
