Social Networking Tasks              

1.    Design a social network (using Ning) and include the following:

a.    Theme

b.    Blog

c.    Podcast

d.    Incorporate three different web 2.0 or mashup tools (examples:  Flickr, Google docs, other)

2.    Research six social networking sites.

a.    What do they have in common?

b.    What makes them good/useful?

c.    What makes these sites not useful/good?

d.    Other.

3.    Research design of social networking sites.  Create a “Top 10 Best Features/designs” of a social networking site.

4.    Research and find five “how to create social networking sites” and write a paragraph about each.

5.    Research and come up with 25 definitions related to social networking.  (Include social network(ing) and web 2.)  Explain what these tools do and why them may be useful on a site.

6.    Research web accessibility from at least three different internet sites and create a social networking accessibility best practices top 10 list.  Include your bibliography of your three accessibility web sites in MLA format.

7.    Research Social Networking safety and include information about

a.    predators

b.    bullying. 

c.    Based on your research come up with a safety plan you’re your site.

8.    Determine who your audience will be.  How will your page be suited towards this audience? (Complete the website information sheet to set a tone for your page.) 

9.    Complete the Web usability and accessibility handout.  Make modifications as they relate to social networking sites.

10. Come up with a list of 15 web 2.0 or mashups tools that are useful to have on a social networking site. (5 must be included on your site.)

11. Create a story board (map) of how your social networking site is going to be laid out and what kind of information will be included on this site.

12. Research copyright issues and how copyright relates to social networks.   Look at the Creative Commons site and choose one of the following:

·          Write a one page paper on copyright and how it pertains to web sites.

·         Create a podcast on copyright and explain how copyright is changing and how it pertains to web design and web sites in general.

13. Research and evaluate a new product, service, tool that relates to your social network project (web 2 tool, web design  software) and blog or podcast about your findings

14. Complete the Design Review handout and write a one page paper that includes what you would keep the same on your site and what you would change

15. Write a one page paper on how Social Networking has changed society and will change society.  Is this good?  Bad?  Why and what ever else you think may be important.

16. Create a portfolio and include all your assignments in the portfolio.  Your portfolio can be in digital or hard copy format.

17. Write a one page reflection, (500 words) about this whole web page project.  Include what you enjoyed, what you would change, what was difficult, what was interesting and what ever else you would like to include.
