Butz is an environmental science graduate. His skills, knowledge and
perspectives have been shaped by more than 30 years of practical experience, in
senior public service positions (environment, heritage, and health portfolios);
active participation in the community sector (health, community development,
landcare, natural resource management, environment education and peace
education); as a consultant in environment, heritage and community building; as
a facilitator of group processes; and as a mentor and coach.
His extensive experience is also applied to training others in skills for facilitation, communication, participatory leadership, influencing and negotiating, including work in international and cross-cultural contexts.
He is an experienced writer, editor and proof reader of scientific/technical, quasi-legal, historical/biographical, geographical, educational and promotional materials. Area / Skills

Mark Butz has produced a wide range of technical papers, reports and articles, and some materials for books, a list of which can be supplied on request. He is also engaged in researching and writing several biographical and historical books (concurrently). These include works about: a rare 19th century album kept by a young woman; the family mystery surrounding some Edwardian postcards; the historical development of a national community-based organisation; a journal dialogue about the path through life and uncertainty; the ambiguous responsibilities of a 'late-starter' mountaineer; and a local heritage study.
