Writer, Editor and Creative Writing Teacher
Background:
Gillian has one novel in print (“Illuminations”, Trivium Publishing, 2002) and two forthcoming. She is co-editor of "Masques" (CSfG Publishing, 2009). Several of her short stories have been published professionally, the most recent being Passports (in "In Bad Dreams 2", Eneit Press, 2009) and Horrible Historians in Subterranean Magazine #4 (USA, 2007) One of her stories won a Victorian Ministry of the Arts award and three more have been listed as recommended reading in the international lists of world’s best fantasy, science fiction or horror short stories. She was a guest of honour at Conflux (science fiction convention) in 2008. Gillian has a doctorate in Medieval history from the University of Sydney, and advises writers on use of history in their fiction. Historical fiction writers who have used her advice in their novels include Elizabeth Chadwick, Felicity Pulman and Sharan Newman. She is a reviewer with Australian Speculative Fiction in Focus and served as judge for the Aurealis awards for two years. Gillian has teaching qualifications (Graduate Diploma in Adult Education, University of New England) and enjoys all forms of teaching from one-on-one to workshops and working with all age groups.
