As most of you know, Luke Gilkerson completed his ministry as Campus Minister with ACT@UT at the end of the last semester. I have been traveling to UT weekly while also continuing to be the campus minister at BGSU. However, this will only be through the end of the semester.
It is ACT’s deepest desire to keep the ministry at the University of Toledo going. It has such a rich legacy. In my travels, I have come across so many UT alumni who are accomplishing significant ministries for the Kingdom. So many churches are being blessed by the alumni who were trained through the ministry of ACT@UT.
Personally, I received many blessings directly from ACT@UT before becoming a part of ACT. While a missionary in Haiti, ACT@UT sent several short-term mission groups to assist in the mission work there. Three families from ACT@UT worked as interns in Haiti for a year and were such blessings. Currently, another former ACT@UT student is leaving in May for a year’s internship in Haiti.
However, THIS IS THE BOTTOM LINE. The University of Toledo needs to have ACT’s continued presence. Currently, we do not have the necessary finances to hire a new campus minister nor to keep the ministry going. ACT’s finances over the last several years have continued to decline. In addition, we want the new campus minister to both be married and not to live in the campus house. Both of these changes will increase the amount of money needed to hire a replacement.
At the last ACT Board Meeting, the Directors decided that we need to raise $50,000 in order to hire a new campus minister (salary, health insurance, business expenses), get him on the field, and to pay for the expenses of the ministry (utilities, programming, etc). They have set a goal of June 15 to raise the $50000 because we need to get him on the field as early in the summer as possible. They are also in faith going to begin to accept resumes for the position of campus minister. If the money is not raised by the June 15 deadline, then they will at that time evaluate and make any necessary decisions concerning the future of ACT@UT.
We are asking you for help in reaching this goal. It is a huge goal, but not unreachable.
I believe with all of my heart that campus ministry plays a very significant role in the future of the church. Our future business leaders, educators, government leaders and politicians, media types, mothers and fathers, and future church leaders will come out of our universities. The potential of sending international students back into the cultures of countries closed to Christianity as missionaries is enormous.
Will you prayerfully consider helping us reach the goal? Your response will help the Board of Directors know what to do come June 15. If you can help, please send your gift to ACT, 612 E. Wooster, Bowling Green, Ohio 43402. Be sure to designate your gift to the "UT Fund".
Yours Because of HIM,
Dave Warner
