DiscoveryUtopias

Emily's reaction to society and other utopias

A. How is your Utopia a reaction to the utopia that you read about in your independent novel?
Well first of all it gave me tons of ideas. In the book "Lord of The Flies" people die and get wounded because of fights and disagreements within the society. I knew that I did not want this in my utopia because no one benefits. Also, the island was an idea from the book. The way I picture most utopia's being started is through a seperation from the other world. What would be a better idea then to hold it on an island. An island is a private place that no one can interupt easily and a place where a peaceful utopia can be held.

B. What historical precedents (or from other works of fiction) have influenced your Utopian idea?
Basically all of the world wars or just wars in general. It is really horrible to think that there are people fight for your country and dieing everyday. This thought to me is toture and I wish that we could rid of it. This is why I thought about a world without war and named it Hatikva meaning "the hope" with high hopes that this utpoia will succeed.

C. How is your Utopia a reaction to the society that you are living in?
Well right now it is a huge difference because our country is actually in a war. I really do not like wars and wish they could all end and there would be world peace. If this utopia excisted today, I would love to move there. It would let you not have to be involved with what is happening in some places and my reaction would be amazing. So mainly, my thoughts are that in the world that if the world I live in right now had a utopia like this, I would love it because wars are such a bad thing.
