| A. How is your Utopia a reaction to the utopia that you read about in your independent novel?
After reading Fahrenheit 451, I made sure to say that books are allowed in my utopia. The book burning gave me the idea to have a fire destroy the earlier world. I took that dystopian idea and basically reversed it. It also made clear what I didn't want in my Utopia. It changed my idea of utopia. I thought that 2 people could have the same utopia. I was wrong. 2 people can only have the same utopia if they are the exact same. In Fahrenheit 451 the firefighters thought that they were doing people a favor and other people thought that they were evil. It all depended on your point of view.
![]() B. What historical precedents (or from other works of fiction) have influenced your Utopian ideas?
The American Revolution has influenced my idea of utopia. Were I am living right now isn't my utopia but when studying utopias I looked at how everyone is equal, everyone has equal rights, and that we, along with many other countries, are free. The USA was supposed to be a utopia and to a certain extent it is. I realized that a utopia is pretty much impossible to achieve because everyone is different and enjoys different things. You can have the basics of a utopia and that’s about it.
![]() C. How is your Utopia a reaction to the society that you are living in? My utopia is a reflection of the US of A. I have lived here for a while and it is what I am used to. Because of that, the hospitals and roads in my utopia look just like the ones here. In other ways, things I don't like about the States I changed in my utopia to make it "better" in my eyes. Where I am right now gave me the base of my utopia. Things that are happening right now like global warming, water shortages, and fuel shortages gave me ideas on what my utopia should be. When we had plenty of gasoline and fossil fuels I would never have thought to have my utopia conserve things.
