deliberate creation versus accidental creation. The year is 2059. The world, especially the United States, has become...a place lacking intelligence. More and more things have become simplified, and people basically have no reason to think. Parents and teachers do not emphasize the importance of gaining and using knowledge. The PASCA (Parents Against Stupid Children Association) proposed a plan to help children, teens, and young adults to gain knowledge and apply it to their lives. Their ideas were not even considered. PASCA was shocked, and decided that if the US government would not even think about reforming their education system, more drastic measures would have to be taken. They counciled for a long time, then concluded that they would find their own place to live, and begin a society based on the importance of gaining knowledge, and applying it to their lives. PASCA spent two years preparing and saving money for this new project. When funds were sufficient, they sent a group of 10 men and 7 women to find a place to start their own community. The group returned three months later with a few options. Click here to see a map displaying the options the group came up with. After many weeks of consultation, PASCA decided on Option 3, for the following reasons:
When this had been decided, preparations immediately began to make the island ready to have people live on it. PASCA hired a private, professional team to go to the island and check to make sure it could be inhabited by people. The team said that the island was perfectly ready for humans to live on it. PASCA then sent a team of architects and engineers (some of them being PASCA members) to the island to build homes for the future residents. Meanwhile, PASCA continued to function with its small organization, and collecting resources, such as nonperishable food items, bedding, clothing, and books, to put on the island. After two years, the island was ready for PASCA members to begin moving in. They packed their belongings, and a PASCA pilot flew them and their families to the island. All was done in secret, and no one knew where or why they had gone. B. What is the time line for the creation and development of this Utopia? If you began building tomorrow, where will your society be in 5 years? In 50 years? In 500 years?
Five years later, the society is still developing. PASCA members are living on the island. They are working towards establishing a steady food source (such as growing crops), instead of having food imported from the United States. They are also establishing a government. The population has grown from 30 women, 40 men, and 80 children to 40 men, 45 women, and 98 children. There is still quite a bit of room for growth. Fifty years later, the society is stable. The population has grown from 150 people to 1350 people. With the crops and people, the island is quickly filling up. PASCA has also started allowing new people to move onto the island, as long as they can meet the criteria for entrance. Their government is running smoothly, and they are growing fantastic crops in the beautiful weather. They are selling the extra fruit and vegetables they harvest to the neighboring countries. The education system is set up, and students are progressing wonderfully.
Five hundred years later, the society is thriving. The population is booming. The society has branched out to the surrounding islands, as there is no longer room for everyone on the original island anymore. C. How do people find out about your Utopia? Do people accidentally stumble across it through exploration? Is a member of the society telling the story of the utopia? PASCA did not want their society to be corrupted by having people living on their island that do not agree with PASCA's beliefs. When they began allowing people to come in and join their society, the people had to be able to prove that they were right for the society, and agree and support PASCA's way of life and education. PASCA set up an internet site describing what it is all about. People who displayed interest in joining the PASCA society would be given more information. If they were still interested, they would take the tests. They would also have to submit information about themselves and why PASCA is right for them, and be able to prove that by moving to the island they would benefit the society. |
