Dillon's Utopia‎ > ‎

Reaction to Society and Other Utopias

A. How is your Utopia a reaction to the utopia that you read about in your independent novel?

In the beginning when I read the book We, I really enjoyed the idea of technology and that is where I got my idea from, but as I read on I found it more and more dystopian. We had some very negative and positive examples for my civilization.  Most of the topics in that book made me think 2 ways. First I thought about what I could make in my utopia to change what happened in this dystopia then, I thought about in what other mysterious ways could this dystopian idea come back to Haunt me.

B. What historical precedents (or from other works of fiction) have influenced your Utopian ideas?

In the world today being a great person sometimes doesn’t ever get rewared. Sure you feel good about yourself but sometimes you need compensation. So in history good people don’t always get rewarded but if you do something good for everyone you are rewarded by being compensated in Techno Topia.

C. How is your Utopia a reaction to the society that you are living in?

Techno Topia is really a reaction to today’s ideas of technology. In today’s world everything basically is done on a computer. I personally think that some time in the future people will develop projects so advanced that they won’t dare share any of these things with the rest of the world. They may be benefiting themselves but they are not benefiting anyone else. The idea in Techno Topia is that everything is shared so there is no man holding back from everyone else. If a person makes a great discovery he is thought after and loved. Everyone will benefit from his work. The rest of the world will become just like men with patents,  they share their extraordinary idea only with themselves and no one else, so in a way the world will become a dystopia.
