A. Education:
1. Who will have access to education and how will they access it?
- Every child is exposed to the instructions of the jobs of the island at the age of 5. The jobs are the things needed for survival such as hunting, farming, building, etc. They access it by at five reding or getting read to a small book of jobs describing what the jobs consist of. The children pick what they want to do, and then at 6 start putting volenteer hours in. They have to volenteer at at least two places to ensure success.
2. What will be taught and how will it be taught?
- The things that are needed for survival are taught such as hunting, farming, building, etc. There are also a few people who are talented enough to become painters, scroll recorders (book writers), dancers, musicians, cooks, and story tellers. Some people just try those jobs to not to do the work of the survival jobs, but only the 2 or 3 approved by the previous painters, storytellers, or scroll recorders can be selected for the jobs. The cooks need at least 20 members to be able to cook for the community, so there is an exception for the cooks. There is also a job that is neither physical nor entertainment. That is the job of the doctor. They do their job just for their desire to help the wounded or sick. The students can learn as they progress with cooking, so the cooking profession takes moderatly good trainees. There are also people who are like leaders. They are the elderlys that want to speak their oppinion from their vast knowledge. They are the ones who speak at the tribe meetings every year. Any elder can join, so it doesn't have be a proffession, but it it is important to the communication to the other islands. The skill will be taught by the current workers in the job who volenteer for teaching, becoming not a full time hunter (for example) and becomeing a halftime teacher, half time hunter. The half time teachers teach in the mornigs, and do their regular jobs about an hour after lunch. They teach by first showing the class a technique or strategy, then having the volenteering children try it. If some do not succed at the trick or technique, he/she will help the child. Thissystem is most like our system of teaching. If some kids just aren't making very good progress, they will be asked to find another volenteer job. The pressure is high, so it keeps the kids on their toes, making them the best they can be.
3. What is the value placed on the role of Educators?
- The Physical workers such as hunters, farmers, and builders are held all the same in all the same respect. The jobs that they all do are equal in the puzzle for survival. With out one, life cannot function well. Entertainment workers such as painters, scroll recorders, and storytellers are held in high respects because because of their great talent and ability to make joy for others, but do not contribute to keeping the society from going into starvation, or a time with no houses, so they are held in the exact same respect as every body else in the community. The cooks make great dishes for the community every night Communication Elders are held in high respect just like the Entertainment workers, and like the entertainment workers, do not contirbute to survival and are equal to everyone else.
B. Religion
i. State sanctioned religion (one official religion) vs. multiple religious traditions
- There is one official religion with three split offs. The original religion is a belief of one god who controlled everything that happened in the Utopian islands, but appears in different forms depending on which island you ask, which is the split off. The Rain Forset Tribe belives that the god appears in the form of a giant horned frog named Polok, the Hawiian word for frog. The Mountain tribe belives that the god appears in the form of a snow white wolf with red eyes named 'Ilio Hae, the Hawiian word for wolf. The Desert tribe belives that the god appears in the form of a gleaming ebony colored Sand Worm named A' Ko'e, or sparkling worm in Hawiian.
ii. If a state sanctioned religion, what level of observance will be required? What will enforcement procedures entail?
- There is no need for observance for religion. The old Hawiian religion was forgotten ages ago and not even the elders remember it. They are cut off from the rest of the world, and even when an outsider stumbles upon the island and gets through the perils, the person is forced to learn the religion or be shuned. No one on the islands knows any religion but theres, which entitles no observance.
iii. Observance of eastern and western religions as they currently exist vs. the creation of a new religion or many new religions?
- There is no obsevance, and no creation of new religions in the Utopian Islands.
C. Arts and Entertainment:
1. Literature (fiction, nonfiction, poetry, drama, etc.)
- The scroll recorders write all the history scrolls, books, and documents. They give the storytellers most of their content. Storytellers are the ones who read aloud the stories the scroll recorders work, and some of their own compositions. They take pleasure in thinking up stories to tell the tribe around the worship fire at night. Stories about the voyage into the middle of the island where great creatures were found, some magnificant and calm, but some terrifying and bloodthirsty. The tales are told for the sake of keeping history and something to do after worship. The stories can be fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and anything else they care to think up.
2. Fine arts (painting, sculpture, drawing, acting, dance, etc.)
- As was said earlier the job of the Entertainment workers is to give joy to people, giving the Physical workers and others something to look forward to after a long day. In the fine arts category there would be painting and dancing. The paintings are used as trade sometimes and are displayed in the center of the town for all of the community to see. Dancing is performed at the worship fire each night. They do the traditional worship dance, then after all is done dance for the entertainment of themsleves and others.
3. Music (instrumental - classic, instrumental - contemporary, vocal, etc.)
- Music is also one of the key things used at the worship fire. They play for the dancers to keep a tone to dance to. After the worship ceremony the vocals come and sing for the town. Most vocal and instrumental people are very popular among the community

4. Film (documentary, animation, fiction, etc.)
- There is no new world technology on the island, so there are no such things like movie stars and film. There is only documentation in the form of writing documentation which is what the scroll recorders do.
5. Sports
- Sports are thought unnecessary by adults. Because of all the work they do during the day, they do not need to work out by doing sports. But sports are played by the children younger than 15 who haven't started official training yet. The most popular game is a form of soccer where the kids set up poles with open ended baskets roped to the top and kick the ball into the hoop. It is like a soccer game with a scoring system like basketball.
6. Value placed on the role of Artists and Athletes
- None on athletes because they don't exist. Artist though are respected for their talent and beautiful pieces of work.
D. Food:
1.Will this Utopia have a national dish?
- Each island will have an island wide dish. The Rain Forest Island's dish is Roasted Ono (Giant Centipede) seasoned with field grown mint grown mint marinated in mango juice. The mountain tribes Island Wide Dish is snow boar with a side of spice crystals. The Desert Tribe's dish is hard boiled Sand Worm eggs surrounded with Dirt Trout fillets and carmelized snake ringing the fish. All of these foods are national dishes because they are the hardest to hunt and catch. The main ingredients (The first ingredient listed in each of the dishes) are the hardest foods to hunt or catch and can only be hunted by the most experienced hunters.
2.What will be the prevailing cultural attitude toward food? (For example, necessary evil or daily joy?)
- The attitude towards it would be daily joy. With the variety of plants and animals on the island there are many flavors and kinds of foods, so eating is joy to the people of the islands. Flavors are amplified on the Utopian islands because of the holy-like presence that resides in that part of the world, the Utopian Islands god.
E. How has your Utopia dealt with the following isues of social customs:
1. New vs. Old Holidays
- Every holiday is important, but the oldest are always the most important, because the oldest ones, or one, celebrates the beginning of their lives on the islands..There are different holidays for each island, but that is one that is celebrated on each island. It celebrates the day that they arrived at the Utopian Islands. That is when the Island wide dish is cooked on each island. But otherwise the holidays are different for each island. On the Rain Forest island they celebrate the beginning of spring, which marks the start of flowers and plentiful harvests. The island turns into a flourish of colors and hues. It is a time of joy for the island. On the Mountain Island they celebrate the beginning of summer, because it is the time that the worries of frost-bite and freezing temperature related illneses. And it is the day when real plants, and not just food crystals, can be grown. The Desert Tribe celebrates the mating day of the Sand Worms, because the sound of their mating calls is the most beautiful music that the world has and will ever hear. The people spend the 2 days dancing and singing along with the beautiful tune.
2. Social Classes (Are different groups of people viewed differently?)
- Everyone is treated equaly and there is no social classes. Everyone does their part to keep society up, running, and happy.
3. Notoriety, Celebrity, and Respect
- Notoriety is mostly non-exsistant. If someone commits a crime against society, they are given 1-2 more chances to shape up, or they are sent out of the society into the outside jungle, with no one to help and create teamwork, the essential part of this society. If they can get to the beach alive, they are not allowed back into society, or allowed to go to the meetings, but are instructed to think about their actions, and to calm their restless souls for the rest of their lives. Harsh, but reason not to commit crimes. Respect is given to everybody, and there are no celebrities, because that would create unequality.
4. Life goals, Hopes, and Dreams
- Most goals and dreams are to become a certain profession, like a painter, or a great hunter. Some life goals are to be recorded in history scrolls.
F. Families:
1. How are families structured in your Utopia?
- There is a couple, who are allowed two-three children so as not to over populate, but also to keep population. There are Elders (Grandparents) who live with the family.
2. Is there a concept of marriage?
- Yes. Only married couples can have children because of the religion. There is a small, happy cerimony that friends and family attend, then the couple starts on their life together. Other than a partner to have by your side, it doesn't change anything for the men. They bring home the food and materials that the wife needs. But the women start house work, sewing, and other things around the house. Of course they get to pick what they want to do so they are not discouraged by the act of marriage, and they can join women clubs when the men are at work.
3. How do children interact with their elders?
- Children respect their elders for their knowledge of things, and for their frailty. They learn at an early age to treat their Elders with respect. In turn with respect the children get tales of the Elder's childhood every night, almost like a bedtime story.
G. How do men and women relate to one another?
- Men and women can both do the things that they want. Women can hunt, and men can sew. It depends on what the person wants to do. The thing that seperates them is that the women take care of their children until the children are old enough to put in volenteer hours, which is almost like day care to the mothers. After that age they can go back to whatever proffession they were doing before.
