Player Piano Question

  1. What do you think that Kurt Vonnegut was saying about society by creating a situation without the need for human beings?
  2. Why does the rebellion fail?
  3. Are we heading for this dystopia in America? Why or Why not?

1) I think he was trying to underline the fact that Humans aren't as great as they think they are. We take everything for granted and should be more grateful for the things we have.
2) The rebellion failed because the leaders were not trying to win. They were just trying to end the old ways and give the opportunity for others to live the way they should with no machines to order them around.
3) Let's hope not! We are pretty dependent on machines though. We are already a bit like the world in Player Piano, and we can't really take care of ourselves without machines anymore. There are already Paul Proteuses in the world, we just don't know about them.

# 1. What do you think that Kurt Vonnegut was saying about society by creating a situation without the need for human beings? I think he was kind of saying that we should never do that to avoid the dystopia that occurred.
# 2. Why does the rebellion fail? They weren't trying to win, and they really had no chance.
# 3. Are we heading for this dystopia in America? Why or Why not? It seems unlikely, but if we take technology to this extreme, it is a very scary prospect.
