A. How is your Utopia a reaction to the utopia that you read about in your independent novel?
We was a dystopia and so AU of CC was trying to avoid everything that was in We. In We, everything was made out of glass and that was not a very good idea. Also, there were specific times that you had to do everything. AU of CC does not have specific times that you have to obey and that helps make it more of a Utopia. We had each citizen do different jobs and that allows for conflict. They also waited until after the 200 year war to create their society. AU of CC was created before a war started to make sure that there were no unresolved conflicts inside the society. The only things that are the same between the two societies are that they take place in the future and they are surrounded by a wall to keep everybody in. Those were the only good ideas for a Utopia in the whole book. If AU of CC was going to be a dystopia, then it would have been almost exactly like We, but it is a Utopia.
B. What historical precedents (or from other works of fiction) have influenced your Utopian ideas?
The reason why AU of CC is based off of competition is because of the excitement that comes from the competition in different sporting events. The competition really makes the sports fun to watch and play, so AU of CC was made so that everything was filled with competition. That means that everything in the society is fun and exciting. C. How is your Utopia a reaction to the society that you are living in? AU of CC is kind of like America because of all the freedom that the citizens have. It is also like America and other places because the government is part democracy. The citizens in AU of CC are very free and can do basically whatever they want to do as long as it is in AU of CC and is filled with competition. AU of CC is located in America, so all of the natural things that happen in America, happen in AU of CC. |
