Andy's Utopia‎ > ‎

Andy's Culture, Social Customs, and Family Structure

Education of citizens is an important aspect in most civilizations.
How will this Utopia respond to the following issues:
Who will have access to education and how will they access it?

Everybody will have access to education up to 25 years old, starting at 5.  It is mandatory to go to 10 years of school, but if you want, you can go longer. There is one school building for all ages, but each year you take different classes. After the mandatory 10 years, you can take the classes at home on the computer.

What will be taught and how will it be taught?

The AU of CC schools teach basic living skills and fine art of competition.
Schedule for 15 year old:
Physical Activity (different activities every day, except on Friday's when you always play footsketball)
Score-keeping/Referee Skills
Rule Making/Changing
Physiology (study of the human body)
Law Enforcement
Footsketball

What is the value placed on the role of Educators?

Since everyone in this society is probably going to be an educator at sometime in their life, teaching is respected equal to every other job. Salaries are the same for every job, so educators are paid the same as everyone else.

How will this Utopia address the following issues regarding religion?
State sanctioned religion (one official religion) vs. multiple religious traditions

The entrance quiz was put out to almost everyone in the world, so every religion is equally accepted. Even if AU of CC tried to create a single religion, it would be impossible due to the many different beliefs.

If a state sanctioned religion, what level of observance
will be required? What will enforcement procedures entail?

There is no state sanctioned religion in AU of CC.

Observance of eastern and western religions as they
currently exist vs. the creation of a new religion or many
new religions?

The religions observed in AU of CC are not the same as in 2008 because religions have changed in the 500 years leading up to the creation of this society. We didn't create any new religions, but citizens can do so if they decide to.

Arts and Entertainment:
Most great societies encourage the flourishing of the full range of human talents. (Note: do not address censorship in this section; see the Government section) How will this Utopia accommodate the following activities:
Literature (fiction, nonfiction, poetry, drama, etc.)

Literature is only used for informing, and not for entertainment.  This is because reading is not a competitive activity. There is no need for fictional writing, so there are no fictional authors.  All of the nonfiction pieces are written as a society, and there are no specific authors.

Fine arts (painting, sculpture, drawing, acting, dance, etc.)

People do not use fine arts as a hobby, but since all fine arts are competitive, they are welcome in the society. There are art (drawing, painting, sculpting, etc.) competitions every five months. The latest art project to win was a paper mache sculpture called "Jacob Michael Andrew Magic Johnson Lopez", which was an interpretation of the AU of CC founder. Acting and dance are the most competitive aspects of fine arts. Since dancing is considered a sport, citizens compete in dance as they do in any other sport. Auditions for plays are very competitive, and there is always a play being performed. Even though the plays themselves are not always competitive, the better the acting, the better chance of getting into another play. Also, all plays are about competing in some fashion.

Music (instrumental - classic, instrumental - contemporary, vocal, etc.)

There is one orchestra and many other musical groups in AU of CC. The orchestra has auditions every year, so the better musicians will earn a place.  The other bands compete 5 times a year in the Gridiron Group Competition. The winner of the competition will perform at major sporting events held until the next Gridiron Group Competition.

Film (documentary, animation, fiction, etc.)

There are no movies for entertainment purposes because you cannot compete while watching a movie. The only moves that are made are for helping with education, sports, and job-related training.

Sports

Sports and competition are the main structure of this society and every aspect of AU of CC incorporates these two critical elements.

6. Value placed on the role of Artists and Athletes

Since competition is a requirement for being accepted into AU of CC, every citizen is an artist or athlete are therefore are treated equally. The exception to this rule is for footsketball athletes, who are treated highly in this society because footsketball is such a complicated sport and it is also the national sport.

Food: Will this Utopia have a national dish? What will be
the prevailing cultural attitude toward food? (For example,
necessary evil or daily joy?)

There is no national food, and all food made is healthy.  This is because all the citizens are very competitive and take good care of their bodies. Like the Gridiron Group Competition, there are Championship Chef Cook-offs 5 times a year.  The winning food is then eaten more throughout the society until the next competition. There are many restaurants, but also many people eat at home with prepared meals they purchased at a store.

How has your Utopia dealt with the following issues of social customs:
New vs. Old Holidays

All religious holidays are celebrated by those that observe the particular religion, but are not considered national holidays because the government wants to avoid religious wars. The new holiday in the society is called AU of CC Day. This day celebrates the anniversary of the start of AU of CC. It is the biggest celebration in AU of CC and is filled with competition. This day is on February 5th every year. It is the best and most fun event of each year and nobody misses it.

Social Classes (Are different groups of people viewed differently?)

The only people that are viewed differently in AU of CC are the footsketball athletes and the leader. Everybody else are treated and viewed the same because they all do the same things.

Notoriety, Celebrity, and Respect

The only real celebrities are footsketball players and they are treated the same as everybody else, except that they are respected a little more because they compete so much. They are also the best competitors in AU of CC, so everybody really likes them.

Life goals, Hopes, and Dreams

Everybody has goals, hopes, and dreams. Most of the time, they become true because everybody gets to do everything. The only time that they might not become a reality is if the dreams are about being a footsketball player or the leader. Both of those positions are nearly impossible to get, but if you try really hard, then you might be able to do it.

How are families structured in your Utopia? (Is there a concept of marriage? How do children interact with their elders?)

Families can be whatever size that the citizens choose it to be. Couples can get married after at least 25 months of dating. AU of CC wants to make sure that every relationship is truly meant for marriage. Citizens can get divorced if they think that they need to, but AU of CC strongly discourages it. Most couples are very happy together, but on the off chance that one couple isn't, then they can get divorced. People can only get married by somebody who has gone to all 20 years of school and gotten there final degree. Married couples can have as many children as they want and can decide how long they will go to school. All children respect their elders because they know that without older people, they would not be able to compete.

Do men and women relate to one another?

Since both men and women can do each job, they relate to each other very well. Both have the same skills, so there is know fighting about which gender is better. Everybody gets together really well and conversation is really easy to start.
