Allie's Utopia‎ > ‎

Allie's Culture, Social Customs, and Family Structure

A. Education of citizens is an important aspect in most civilizations.
How will this Utopia respond to the following issues:
1. Who will have access to education and how will they access it?
Education will be avaliable to everyone, and mandatory. Students will attend a "school"  with a range of people attending them ( age, gender, smartness). But, in my Utopia, all of the classes will take place outside. Some classes will take place by a stream, in a field, or under a big tree. We took the idea of poor schools in Africa, bringing the high-tech world back to its original format. Believing, you can learn just as much with no pencil as you can with a laptop. This will make students feel like learning is as enless as the universe around them.

2. What will be taught and how will it be taught?

Each member of society will be in charge of taking one class and teaching a class each month. This way, the learners will be the educators and the knowledge will be spread throughout the people. Although, children under the age of 12 will be required to go to a class everyday to learn the basic skills, which will be taught by a educator ( a teacher from the previous society.)
3. What is the value placed on the role of Educators?
The value of educators will be great at the beginning of our society, because not everyone will have the skills of the educators. But, after the educators have taught their skills to the children and the adults, their teaching skills will not be a needed any longer. Although, this passing on of knowledge may take 15 years.

B. How will this Utopia address the following issues regarding religion?
i. State sanctioned religion (one official religion) vs. multiple religious traditions

My Utopia will not have religion. We decided to do this because in the past world, religion was what inevitably caused the nuclear attack. There were so many disputes over who's religion was best that the nuclear attacks happened because countries just began launching nuclear bombs at each other.

ii. If a state sanctioned religion, what level of observance
will be required? What will enforcement procedures entail?

We will not have religion but we will have "church" once a year, this meeting will be called Rejoin. Here we get together to and celebrate the new births and lives of those who died that year. We will also discuss any new rules that have been installed that year. At this time, the 16 year olds will be assigned their life assignments, in other words, their job.  From age 12 to 16, they will have been trying out different jobs, so that the heads of the jobs, will be able to evaluate each teenagers skills. Then, their job given at 16 will be decided by the head of each job, who will review the teenagers and decide who would be best to go into their profession.

iii. Observance of eastern and western religions as they
currently exist vs. the creation of a new religion or many
new religions?

We don't have any religions. Even though religion seems like a peaceful thing, it actually is one of the most dangerous and controversial things out there.

C. Arts and Entertainment:
Most great societies encourage the flourishing of the full range of human talents. (Note: do not address censorship in this section; see the Government section) How will this Utopia accommodate the following activities:

1. Literature (fiction, nonfiction, poetry, drama, etc.)

Reading will only be mandatory up to age 12. Once you have mastered the  skill of being able to read your language, you have your choice to continue. The same will go for writing, we will encourage people to write books, so that the other citizens can enjoy them.  There will be libraries, where you can rent books for free. These books will be donated by anyone who has written a book out of choice, although it is expected for people to donate books not receiving any money back.

2. Fine arts (painting, sculpture, drawing, acting, dance, etc.)

In my Utopia, there will be "talent houses." These will be open on Saturdays and Sundays. Here you can come and show off your talent. People come and walk around and watch the different talents. Scouts often come and find people to do movies, plays, etc.

3. Music (instrumental - classic, instrumental - contemporary,
vocal, etc.)
Music is very respected in my society. It will be taught and mandatory for each citizens to learn an instrument or sing, There will be clubs for those who do each musical instrument. There will be a choir, a piano club, a violin ensemble, etc. After you have learned your musical, you can go and show it off at the talent house.

4. Film (documentary, animation, fiction, etc.)

When creating a film, scouts go and search the talent houses for people to use in their shows. Then, the films will be shone outdoors like "drive-in movies."

5.Sports
There will be sports teams that athletes can play on. Construction workers and engineers will together build arenas that the different sports can play in.

6. Value placed on the role of Artists and Athletes

Artists and Athletes are in charge of their own value and destiny. To start out, they will go to the talent house or try out for the sports teams. Then, depending on how good they are, the people will judge then and decide what they think that artist or athlete's value should be. But as a whole, artists and athletes will be valued and well respected. They bring diversity to the  society, which is always valued.

D. Food: Will this Utopia have a national dish? What will be
the prevailing cultural attitude toward food? (For example,
necessary evil or daily joy?)

No one in my society will eat meat. We do not believe in killing animals for their body parts. Eating is done 2 times a day with snacks in between. One meal will be eaten at 10:00 in the morning, the other at 7:00 at night. Reading the nutrition labels on food will be important. Maintaining a healthy weight will be important in my society. We will have a national dish, which will be smoothies. Though, there will be many variations of this. Not only are smoothies healthy and tasty, they are made with a variety of fruits; just like our Utopia is made with a variety of people.

E. How has your Utopia dealt with the following issues of social customs:
1. New vs. Old Holidays

Birthdays will not be celebrated.  Only 3 birthdays will be celebrated in your life. One will be the day you are born, one will be when you turn twelve, this is when it is not mandatory for you to go to school everyday. Your last birthday will be when you turn 16 and are assigned your job. Though, there will be parties in someone's honor often.  These will act as birthday parties where you get to celebrate your life.  Though it is felt that we shouldn't celebrate birthdays because that just makes you feel old and depressed when you get older.
There are several other holidays that we will celebrate from the old society,  though we will incorporate some of our new holidays.

2. Social Classes (Are different groups of people viewed differently?)

Instead of being viewed in social classes by how much money you have, you will be viewed by how hard you work and people will therefore respect you more.
3. Notoriety, Celebrity, and Respect
Because of our social classes, celebrities will be in a low social class because they don't work very hard and contribute to the society. But firemen will be in a high social class because they keep our society safe and contribute a lot to helping our main probelm.
4. Life goals, Hopes, and Dreams

Each society member will be responsible for setting goals for themselves of different lengths of time. The goals will be kept in city hall and handed out when the person has completed their goal, along with a certificate of completition. Sharing your dreams with your family will be encouraged, so they can help you sort through your feelings.
F. How are families structured in your Utopia? (Is there a concept of marriage? How do children interact with their elders?)

In my concept of marriage, phsycolgists will study a child's personality and match it to a compatible personality of a person of the opposite gender. This male and female  will go to school together and learn to love each other. Then, at the age of 18, they will have the choice of marrying that person or being paired up with someone else. Both the male and female must want to marry each other. If they get married, they will live together and be given the option to have children or adopt children. Every pair of adults will be responsible for raising atleast one child. If they choose not to have a child, they will be assigned one of the orphans or children who were given up by their parents (teenage mothers.) If there is a teenage mother, they must give it up and put it into an orphanage. If both of a children's parents die, they will be put into an orphanage

G. How do men and women relate to one another?

Men's job will be to protect one women. This women will be their "wife." This way, women will be safe and then our population will be able to expand. This also gives the men a sense of purpose, their job in life is to provide for their family and protect their assigned women. I say assigned because up to the age of 12, parents will be in charge of taking care and protecting their child. After that, phsycolgists will study the child's personality and match it to a compatible personality of a person of the opposite gender. Then, that male will be in charge of protecting that person from there on.

H. Do children respect their elders?

Inorder for an edler to be respected, they must earn respect. Just because the elder is older than you, doesn't mean you must respect them. So, children are given the personal choice of weather or not to repect their elders.
