Belief Structure TemplateI. Core Beliefsa. What are the essential truths (belief statements) of your -Ism? You should have between 7 and 10 belief statements that outline the goals of your belief system:
1) Everyone should believe in the lord. He created us and we should love him and have faith in him in return. 2) That in order to live a successful life you need to have fun and relax as well work hard and focus. 3) That no one is truly happy with out love. You could have all the money in the world and not be happy without love. It fills a special place in your heart that can't be filled by money or objects. 4) That war, or less violently competition, is good for the society. It helps improve technology and helps us advance. If we are always trying to "one up" our opponent than we will create new more helpful things faster than ever. 5) That abortion is bad. It is pretty much killing a human being that didn't even hace a chance to live. It is the same as killing a baby. Instead of abortion people should think about ADOPTION!
6) I believe that everyone should remain humble. Its ok to have a lot of money and posessions, to an extent.
7) I believe that for every thing you take from this world you should eventually give at least double back, if you make $3,000 you should eventually give back at least $6,000 to like a charity.
b. How do you act differently because of your beliefs? I act accordingly to my beliefs. I follow them as much as I can. I don't really act differently because of them. I think that every one acts towards their beliefs whether they try to or not.
c. What is the purpose of life according your -ism?
To try to live the best life possible. I believe that God wants us to live a wonderful live and be the best person you can be.
d. How does the rest of the world differ from your core beliefs? Why are you right? I think that a lot of people don't follow my beliefs. A lot of people don't believe in God or think abortion is a good idea. I think that no one shares the exact same beliefs as me, some may be simlar but not exactly the same. I don't think that i'm exactly "right". I mean how do tell if I am there is billions upon billions or people in the world each with a unique belief. So i think that my beliefs are right for me but not everyone. e. What beliefs do you you share with others?
The biggest one that I agree with that a lot of the kids have is that everyone should believe in God.
f. Which core belief do you think is the central one that all other beliefs revolve around? I think its a mix of these two: 1) Everyone should believe in the lord. He created us and we should love him and have faith in him in return.
2) That in order to live a successful life you need to have fun and relax as well work hard and focus. I live my life acording to these to things. These are the things that have the biggest impact in my life.
II. Role in Societya. What is your role in society according to your -Ism? (How do you fit in among your peers?)
I think that I fit in pretty well. I am in "GT" and classafied as a "nerd" which isn't true. But among my discovery and non-discovery friends I fit in pretty well. My beliefs are not drasticly different than those of my friends.
b. What is your method of connection to others? I just try to be friends with everyone. When I first meet someone I am really nice and polite and if we end being friends great, if not than we're not friends. It has worked so far. Most of the time I can relate through personal experiances to my friends because a lot of my friends are alot like me.
c. How much do you care for yourself vs. other people? I think I am way more giving than selfish. I always think of my family or friends before me. I believe this and I'm caring because I think this how the lord wants us to act. Hence the golden rule "Treat others the way you want to be treated"
e. What is the prevailing metaphor or image that you would use to describe progress? Why would you define your –Ism with this image? (A ladder, a mountain, a treadmill, etc. Feel free to get an image from Morguefile or describe this metaphor through a bubblr strip. or Voicethread) My belief is that in order to live a successful life you need to have fun and relax as well work hard and focus.
The metaphor is golf. When playing golf in order to be good at it you have to work hard and practice alot. Most pro golfers practice
2-4 hours a day. When you get ready to hit the ball you have to always remain focused. If you even slightly take your eye of the ball
your hit is going to slice or hook or not go very far. But you do not want to tense up so much. You want to remain relaxed or
you will most likely mess up. Last you want to have fun with it. If you hate golfing and are not having fun well playing it than
your not going to be very "successful" at playing are, because you know that if win or if you lose its not fun for you.
f. How do you view major social institutions (government, welfare, religion, etc.)? Well I am conservative. I mostly agree with the republican views in the government department. I think that right now democracy is the best kind of government. On welfare I think that every person should receive some sort of heath insurance from the government. In religon I am a Catholic. So I believe in God and I hold most of the views of the Catholic church.
III. Solving Problemsa. What are the “societal goods” that you promote, and how do you promote these? (charity, equality, etc.)I believe in charity. One of my beliefs is that very everything you get you should eventually give at least twice back. Through my church we donate a lot of money every month. I believe that for the most part men and woman should be treated equal. But I do think feminist sometimes take it to far. I do not believe that woman should be priests. It is a rule of the church. b. What are the “societal ills” that you try to solve, and how do you solve these? (racism, stress, etc.) There are a lot of societal ills that I am against. One of them is racism. I think that it should be banned. In a lot of southern states there is a lot of racism and kids are getting there feelings hurt. I also think that it leads to violence and maybe even murder. Another "societal ill" that I think needs to be changed is that how inappropriate movies and television are becoming. More and more every day more movies are made that sexual content, cursing, and disrespect to God. Kids are getting introduced to this kind of stuff at an early age. I think that we should start censoring more closely. We should ask ourselves do we really want our children to see this before c. How does your –ism deal with the invisible, but persistent pressures of life (Patriarchy, the pressure to be a success, the pressure to be cool)? I am always being pressured. From friends, family, and teachers. One step out of line and every one gives you a hard time. For the most part you kind of have to just keep up with the pressures. I think that you should try to be cool and successful. The only problem is that all these pressure start to build up and form stress. Which part of my -ism is to also have fun and relax to realive stress. IV. Debate
a. What are the debates that you are concerned with waging? Why? (Abortion, Equality, Truth, Etc.)
The major debate I am interested in waging is against the atheistic or blasphimic beliefs that are against he lord. I think that evey one should worship the lord and give him praise and thanks. This debate of course covers a lot of littler debates such as abortion, which I am against. The reason I am waging these debates is mostly because of my religeous beliefs. I follow them as closly as I can and I believe that others should follow them too.
b. How would you frame these debates so that only your ideas would be seen as right? I use evindence from the bible. When people question or insult my beliefs I will use quotes from the bible say what is right and what is wrong. If they are open-minded then they will realize they are wrong and mend their ways. If the don't then it makes them look like the "bad guy" in the eyes of a lot of people. V. Your Head
a. How does your –Ism influence the way you see everyday sights, events, and objects?
l always try to live my life according to my beliefs as I said earlier. From my religeous beliefs I view what is right and what is wrong. The way I view what is right and wrong is extensive so I'm not going to go into it know. Certan events and sights I will find very disrespectful, to God, to parents, or to just plain everyone. I will try to avoid these things or stituations as best I can.
b. What is a day in your life like because of your -Ism? Every day I pray. That is one main thing I do every day. I try to follow the lords word, the bible. I am nice to most people and I am respectful to adults. A day in my life is also guided by another one of beliefs. That in order to live a successful life you need to have fun and relax as well work hard and focus. During the day I try not to over stress by relaxing and having fun with friends. But I also pay attention and work hard. So far this system has paid off. I have a lot of friends, a girlfriend, and outstanding grades. I am getting straight A's in advanced classes. A day in my life includes hanging out having fun with friends and working hard.
VI. Other Important Aspectsa. What are the other defining aspects of your Ism that are not discussed in the other sections of this Outline?
There is one major aspect of my beliefs that I have not adressed in the rest of this outline. This is my belief in music. Ever since I was a little kid I have loved music and right now I love many kinds. My favorite is rock. But I enjoy gospal, some country, and a couple other kinds. I believe that music is very helpful and influencial. I officially play two instruments, the saxaphone and the guitar, but I am able to play bass and a little bit of drums. I write a lot of songs and music. I think that some of my stuff is good and I like it. Some of my other stuff is, ok is how I'll put it. But I usually don't write it for other people, I use music to vent feelings. It helps me relax a lot also. If I'm feeling something, happyness, sadness, love. I'll write a song about it.
This is one of my favorite songs by "Guns N' Roses". It is called sweet child o' mine. It is the very first song I learned on guitar (of course I could only play the begining then).
And for no reason here are some turtles. I thought they were kinda cool. The follow your mouse and you can click to put down food. And you can click and hold on one and they go in there shell and you can drag them around.
Belief Statement Essay
] |
Hey man amen to the whole friends on both side type of deal. This piece I think really was exceptional because of you describing you choices. The whole thing was an example and the whole thing described it. Also I really liked the whole two faces to everything. The whole cons vs. pros and which outweighs which. I think though in the middle there you got a little extreme with both sides, kinda making it an all or nothing deal, but great!
I thought this essay was great. You took each paragraph in a different direction without going too far away from the topic, and everything made sense and was easy to understand. Like Austin said, you did get a little extreme with how you could live life, but hey, you have to exaggerate sometimes to get a point across.
I think that this essay is very good. I think the idea of living your life to make the best out of it and get the furthest in life is a great belief. I think your essay is pretty clear.
I like it and there isn't much to argue about. But I don't feel that nerds are social outcasts. If you look at it then we have our own classes in the nerd group. I feel that social outcast isn't the right term. I do think that we are harrassed but we are not o0utcasts because you and I and probably others have friends outside of discovery. Maybe you should say like non-popular but not oucast.
This is great! I love the part where you said you were pulled by friends on both sides because I think everyone can relate to it. A few questions though. . . so do you not think it's possible to either:
*not always work hard and not study all the time aand still get good gredes, be successful, and have alot of knowledge?
*to always work hard and still not get good grades?
but i agree that you always need to make sure you balance working and being "smart" with slacking off and having fun. great job!!
Great writing. I like how you talked about money being a huge part of our world. My ideas on that is that money runs our world, but I do not believe that it should. I also agree with lingling when she said that you need to be balancing work with being "smart".
This is written very well. You use great structure throughout your whole essay. A few spelling errors, don't forget spell check. Overall easy to follow, great point and true at that. I would not want to stretch to either side, like you I would cut down the middle. It has a very nice flow and keeps the reader, for the most part, captivated. Well done.
I like how you show the contrast of the two choices. Especially how you talk about when you hit it big. If you are really smart and maybe not as popular in school, you'll still be living it up when you are an adult because when you were young you learned how to work hard and how to be successful. i do think it gets a little extreme and in the middle I kept thinking, why can't you have both, but you said that in the end. So it was good. Sorry about the late comment I was just reading a lot of them now. And I actually felt like reading a long essay today. Haha. Good job! :)
