Mission and Goals

Chapter Mission Statement

 

To substantially increase the representation of American Indian and Alaska Natives in engineering, science, and other related technology disciplines in Alaska.

 
AAISES Chapter Goals
  •  Provide role models for students and professionals by identifying community contributions of American Indian and Alaska Native scientists and engineers.
  • Provide support/mentorship for students in the transition from student status to professional status.
  • Provide support/mentorship for other professionals by organizing seminars and workshops to develop management, communication, and other skills.
  • Provide networking resources by:
  • Establishing community relations.
  • Sharing job opportunities
  • Organizing student scholarships.
  • Encouraging Sequoyah Fellowships. 
  •  Maintaining a Speakers Bureau for conferences for high school and college functions.
  • Providing science fair judges.
  • Supporting educational partnerships.
  • Encouraging participation in other technical societies.
  • Educate the public to American Indian and Alaska Native capabilities in science and other technical areas.
  • Promote communication among AISES members.
  • Promote the leadership capabilities of American Indian and Alaska Native through educating the public and through encouraging individuals for leadership roles.
  • Support outreach programs
  • Support student travel to AISES National Conference.
  • Nominate and support individuals for AISES Board of Directors.
  • Supporting AISES in other ways recommended or allowed by the National Headquarters.

Proposed condensed bulleted list of goals:
1.) Provide role models for students and professionals.
2.) Provide support/mentorship for students to transition to professional status.
3.) Provide support/mentorship for professionals in developing management, communication, and other skills.
4.) Provide networking resources and opportunities.
5.)* Identify and recognize exceptional members.

*Would need to be added as appropriate during the next meeting (if all agree) to be adopted as a chapter goal.

Deanna: "More space... have a couple of sentences/bullets of current successes of our professional chapter." Update pictures w/ Nationality/Tribe.
David: "What is AISES? Tough to decipher between local and national organization."
