September 15, 2008 - Today, the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) proudly announces the newly elected officers of its Board of Directors.
The new Board Chairwoman, Dr. Dorothy Pender, Inupiat Eskimo, Engineering Sector Manager at Alyeska Pipeline Service Company, believes AISES next 30 years will be as exciting as its first 30. "The new Board members, officers, and Strategic Plan launch us into the next 30 years and represent a fresh chapter in our history. I ask our Creator to guide and inspire us to meet the AISES mission," says Dr. Pender. Officers joining Dr. Pender on the AISES Board's Executive Committee include Vice Chair, Everett F. Chavez, Santo Domingo Pueblo; Treasurer Kiutus Tecumseh, Winnebago; and Dr. Carol Crouch, Salish Kootenai, as Secretary.
The Board met in Albuquerque last week to complete the new 5-year strategic plan for the organization and attend a regularly scheduled business meeting. Board Chair Emeritus Andrew Conseen Duff expressed this week, "I witnessed the extraordinary effort of this Board to develop a strong and visionary plan for the future. I am leaving the Board an excited and motivated supporter of the new leadership and direction."
The Board also announces the results from the recent election. The three incoming Board members are Anthony Kahn, Navajo; Everett Chavez, Santo Domingo Pueblo (re-elected); and Dean Seneca, Seneca. The new Board members will take their oath of offices at the 30th anniversary conference in Anaheim, CA. A special election will be held to fill a 2-year Board vacancy, with a call for nominations to begin during the 30th anniversary conference. Dr. A. D. Cropper's Board term is also being extended for one year, to be ratified by the General Members.
The AISES Board of Directors extends an invitation to you to participate in the upcoming AISES National Conference, which will be held in Anaheim, CA, October 30 - November 1. The Conference will feature a record number of tribes and tribal organizational participation, research presentations, keynotes and concurrent workshops, a Career Fair, and awards recognizing the accomplishments of student and professional members.
