We are VERY CLOSE to securing federal funding for 2-1-1. Members of Congress are home in the districts until Sept. 10. We need everyone who cares about the future of 2-1-1 to talk with their Representatives and Senators in person during August. Our targets are our co-sponsors. They need to help us get this bill moving.
#1 goal is to have many co-sponsors write letters to their leadership calling for a vote on H.R.211 or S.211 in September (see samples in Useful Docs). This is something they can easily do during the recess. You can choose one of several strategies:
* Meet in person or attend town halls
* Ask our major influencers and partner organizations to make the ask
* Place opinion editorials (op-eds) by volunteers
* Use social media (Twitter, Facebook, etc) at least once a day to raise the debate
We have the votes; there is increased talk about the bill, but without more and continual pressure it may not move. We need to get the bill to a vote in September! At 246 co-sponsors in the House and 61 co-sponsors in the Senate, we are well past our original goal of 220 and 60 co-sponsors and have the votes for passage!
It is time to pull out all the stops and use all our assets--boards, agencies, partners, etc. The proposed Senate legislation: S.211; and the proposed House of Representatives legislation: H.R.211.
